Master of Light: Ansel Adams and His Influences
Published in Paperback by Smithmark Publishing (February, 1998)
Authors: Therese Lichtenstein and Todtri Productions

I'd like a copy of this book!
Hi! My name is Theresa Therese! To whoever is listening, I'd really like a copy of this book when it is available! (That'll teach me for being so arrogant as to type my own name into a search engine! ... This was the no 1 result).

Photographer buff
The book was purchased for my teenage son who is very interested in black and white photography. He loves the book. A collection of Ansel Adams work in light and shadows in one book is worth more than the price. A must read.

Maximilian the Great

Authors: Lisa Funari Willever, Lorraine Funari, and Adam Corsi

Fun many ages
I have three sons, age 7, 5 and 2 and they all were thrilled by this book and the others in the series.

The art is fun and very kid-friendly. They laughed out loud with the storyline and illustrations.

Best of all these books are not written down to children. My toddler loved it but it also makes a great first reader for my seven year-old, who is not insulted by it's content. It is not "a baby book."

Very nicely illustrated, with a engaging, rhyming text.
The text is in rhyme and tells the comical story of Maximilian the baker and his attempt to become a magician. Too impatient to read the magic book that accompanied his magic hat, Max's magic result sin mixed up and silly spells. During his first school visit Max learns that real magic is simply making others laugh. Written for young readers ages 6 to 9, Maximilian The Great is very nicely illustrated by Adam Corsi. A unique aspect is the provision of a special section of tips for the young reader on writing and illustrating, with information on how they can submit their own work in a contest for publication.

Me & Jay
Published in Paperback by Unlimited Publishing (May, 2001)
Author: W. Royce Adams
Average review score:

The best I've read in a long while!
Geraldine Thomas was a thirteen year old tomboy. Her best friend was Jay Thornton, who was always too curious for his own good. Geri's other friend was Randy, who was an oddball to others his age due to his high intelligence. During a hot day Geri suggested hunting up, what the locals called, Blue Pool. It was a an isolated, tear drop shaped, crystal blue lake a few miles away. Many tales circulated about people dying at the lake or disappearing, but Geri and Jay still decide to go. That was only the first of several bad choices the two made that day. Randy was the only one smart enough not to thumb his nose up at danger. He stayed home. Soon Geri and Jay are facing venomous snakes, hopping on and off moving trains, starting a brush fire, finding a new cave, being chased by two mean men out to seriously harm them, and much more! During it all, Geri and Jay become closer and learn some interesting things about each other.

***** Author, W. Royce Adams, writes the way pre- teens and teens talk in today's real world. This makes the story more believable and smoother for the reader. Readers cannot help but learn a few things while reading the story as well, such as what stalactites, stalagmites, and gypsum grotto are. I would not be surprised to see this book win awards! Many will place this book upon their "Keeper" shelves. I sure will! My twelve year old son could hardly wait to get his hands on the book once I was finished.

Perfect for fans of "Hardy Boys" and "Nancy Drew", or just for those who enjoy a lot of excitement in their stories! Highly recommended reading here! Don't miss this one! *****

As young reader friendly as it is entertaining
When thirteen-year-old Geri and her best friend Jay decide to cool off by finding Blue Pool (and unfrequented, off-limits area known to be dangerous) they discover more than they bargained for as they hop a freight train to take them up river, accidentally start a grass fire, and find themselves chased through a huge, unchartered cave by two men willing to do anything to keep secret what the kids have discovered. The adventures of Geri and Jay bring them one step closer to maturity and acceptance of responsibility, along with the sense of a new, unfamiliar relationship between them. With Me & Jay, author Royce Adams documents an undeniable talent for story telling that is as young reader friendly as it is entertaining.

Message in the Wind
Published in Hardcover by Unole Pub Co (January, 1995)
Authors: Alethea A. Adams-Wells and Aleechawa
Average review score:

A journey on the "Trail of Tears" traveled by her ancestors
To survive polio in the 1950s was unusual in itself, but for a premature, two-week-old baby to live--in spite of impoverished circumstances and lack of medical attention--nothing short of a miracle had to occur. Alethea Adams was no ordinary child, and even as she scooted around her mountain home on her seat, unable to force her crippled legs to walk, this seven-year-old Cherokee girl cherished a dream: someday she would walk that "Trail of Crying" which her mother described--a long and arduous journey from Tennessee to Oklahoma, a trail from which the blood of some 4,000 of Alethea's Cherokee ancestors still cries out to those who will listen. Not only does MESSAGE IN THE WIND detail the fulfillment of that little girl's impossible dream; it allows contemporary readers to visualize the actual events which the Cherokees must have encountered during the 1838 Removal, and grants an inside view of the emotional toll this horrendous chapter in American history has taken on a strong and proud people. Supplemented by maps and historical sketches, MESSAGE IN THE WIND is a must-read for anyone interested in Cherokee culture.

Fantatastic reading of an historic journey.
Ms. Adams-Wells takes a person through the historic journey made by her ancestors and describes the people, feelings, and adventures she experiences along this long and arduous walk. Being the only modern day woman to walk as her ancestors did, clad in moccasins and carrying a 50lb back pack, she minces no words describing her journey and the treatment she received.A monumental journey for anyone, she desesrves a place of honor for this book..

Mont Saint Michel and Chartres
Published in Digital by Penguin ()
Authors: Henry Adams and Raymond Carney
Average review score:

A disguised autobiography
A reading of Richard Brookhiser's recent (and highly recommended) *America's First Dynasty* sent me back to *Mont Saint Michel and Chartres*, a book I hadn't read in thirty years. I'm glad I returned to it, because a few years have, I trust, put me in a better position to appreciate what's going on in the book.

On one level, the most obvious one, Adam's book is a sometimes idiosyncratic history of Medieval art, literature, and religion that takes as its center of gravity the great Gothic cathedrals of the period--structures that Adams thinks sum up what the middle ages are all about. To read the book on this level alone is fine. It provides intriguing insights into, for example, courtly love and the cult of Mary.

But I now believe that, at a deeper level, the book is disguised autobiography on the one hand and a backhanded history of Adams's own time on the other. An at times overwhelming sense of nostalgia permeates the book. In reading Adams on the 11th century mystics, the debates of the schoolmen, the chansons of the troubadours, and the unified worldview of the middle ages, one can almost hear him sigh with longing to return to a world which, he thinks, was whole, unfractured, and pure--a world, as the medievals themselves would've said, which reflects "integritas." This reveals a great deal about the restless, unquiet nature of Henry Adams the man. But it also reveals the restless, unquiet nature of the modern era which spawned and molded him: the gilded age, the fast-paced first wave of capitalism, secularism, and consumerism, which has no center of gravity, no art, no tradition. And even though we claim to be living in a "postmodern" age, it seems to me that a great deal of the qualities Adams deplored in his own times are still with us and account for our own sense of homelessness.

*Mont Saint Michel and Chartres,* then, is more than a quaint turn-of-the-last-century history. Read correctly, it's also a mirror of our present discontent. Highly recommended.

A wonderful intro to Gothic cathedrals and the Middle Ages
Twenty years ago, I first read this book and was driven by Adams' compelling study of these two cathedrals to spend a decade studying Medieval and Renaissance literature. Adams at times finds his enthusiasm for his subjects embarrassing, but gives in to it nevertheless and writes a brilliant and joyous paean to these cathedrals and to the spirit that created them. Rereading this book now, twenty years later, I remember the thrill of reading it the first time, and it sparks my own enthusiasm all over again.

Mountain Bike Indiana: An Atlas of Indiana's Greatest Off-Road Bicycle Rides (Mountain Bike American)
Published in Paperback by Beachway Pr (December, 1996)
Authors: Layne Cameron and Scott Adams
Average review score:

An essential guide for any mountain biker in Hoosier land.
This is a book that any mountain biker in Indiana, Eastern Illinois, or Northern Kentucky should have. Dozens of trails, helpful directions, and contour maps. There are a number of terrific, yet out of the way single-track trails included. The only negative is that it is a bit dated.

Cameron's ATB book is an Indiana Cycling Bible
Layne Cameron has truly given Indiana cyclists something to be proud of. He has displayed, with inciteful commentary and fun humor, the best mountain biking Indiana has to offer and the interesting monuments these trails have near their locale. This book is an all-terrain cycling Bible with wonderful maps and excellent directions. Thanks Layne!

Nation Dedicated to Religious Liberty: The Constitutional Heritage of the Religion Clauses
Published in Paperback by University of Pennsylvania Press (October, 1990)
Authors: Arlin M. Adams and Charles J. Emmerich
Average review score:

Our Religious Heritage Rightly Uplifted and Defended
A well thought out and researched work on the intent of the constiutional framers concerning religion and state. We hear so much nonsense these days from ACLU and others which would make one think our country has just recently invented this need to let religion coexist without government constraint and interference. These jurists have well researched and well presented the case for contemporary jurisprudence to return to its founding roots concerning the separation and establishment clauses. Particulary ringing in my reading will be this quote: "The Constitution, the nation's fundamental law, cannot be legimately be construed to afford redress to every citizen who takes offense at public expressions, whether religious or secular in content. Although the establishment clause forbids the state from sponsoring religiously coercive symbols and practices, it does not require the state to excise public symbols and practices merely because they may be offensive to some."

Fine analysis of the founding father's original ideas
Charles Emmerich and Arlin Adams use an unbiased approach to document the original goals of our founding fathers: A Nation that can only function properly as a righteous one. The book is a must read for anyone interested in First Amendment Law or anyone who needs a fresh focus on the rights we have as Americans.

Obstetrics and Gynecology (Platinum Vignettes Series: Ultra High Yield Clinical Case Scenarios for USMLE Step 2)
Published in Paperback by Hanley & Belfus (April, 2002)
Authors: Adam, MD Brochert and A Hanley & Belfus Publication
Average review score:

Good review source
Not a stand-alone review, but a great review of high-yield OB/GYN. Good figures and photos. Helped me get the classic presentations down pat before my exam. Definitely did better on my exam because of it.

5 stars all the way!
I loved using cases to review for my step 2 exam because I was burnt out on reading straight text and tired of doing multiple choice questions. The format is simple - read through a case presentation (CC, HPI, PMH, PE, Labs) and guess the condition and how to treat it. The back of the page gives you the answer, which I liked better than the "Underground Vignettes" series, because you can't see the answer until you turn the page. The explanations are easy to understand, thorough and high-yield. A great tool for step 2 review.
